It’s officially two weeks countdown to Chinese New Year (Spring Festival)! If you don’t already know, Chinese New Year is based on the Lunar calendar. The New Year is landing on Friday, February 12th in 2021, and it’s the year of OX.


Ever since moved to U.S., Chinese New Year was no longer festive and fun to me. It's used to be the biggest holiday and I've always looking forward to it every year!


Chinese Zodiac Basics

  • The Chinese Zodiac Sign corresponds to years rather than months, and it's a 12 year cycle. (well, it’s traditionally a 60-year cycle, but it’s really complicated! I'm including some links below, you can go take a look at some in-depth explanations about the 5 elements and such if you are interested).

  • 12 Animal sign order: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

  • The Chinese Zodiac plays an essential role in Chinese culture. It's believed that people born in a given year have the personality of that year's animal.
